Psalm 4:

A Psalm of David

4 Hear me when I call, O God of my righteousness: thou hast enlarged me when I was in distress; have mercy upon me, and hear my prayer.

2 O ye sons of men, how long will ye turn my glory into shame? how long will ye love vanity, and seek after leasing?

Selah.

3 But know that the Lord hath set apart him that is godly for himself: the Lord will hear when I call unto him.

4 Stand in awe, and sin not: commune with your own heart upon your bed, and be still.

Selah.

5 Offer the sacrifices of righteousness, and put your trust in the Lord.

6 There be many that say, Who will shew us any good? Lord, lift thou up the light of thy countenance upon us.

7 Thou hast put gladness in my heart, more than in the time that their corn and their wine increased.

8 I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, Lord, only makest me dwell in safety.  (KJV)

Our Father,

Thanks for hearing us when we call upon you in the name of your Son Jesus. Have mercy on us today and bless us with confidence in facing the trials and tests before us. You are faithful and your Holy Spirit is always faithful in giving us the counsel that we need every day and hour.

We pray for those who do not know you and who seek after the things of this world which give no relief and honor false gods who do not answer. Let us be a good example for those who are seeking the truth.

We put our trust in you and offer our lives to you today since you have sought only those things that are best for us and have brought a joy into our lives that passes anything that the world can offer as temporary happiness. You give us real peace and contentment in this life and real purpose. Thanks for watching over us continually.

Now we ask that you would also watch over this nation which deserves judgment but we ask for grace, mercy, and revival instead. Let your Spirit and light shine across this whole land from the west to the east and from the north to the south and back again.

In Jesus name, Amen.
