Proverbs 1:1-7

1 The proverbs of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel;

2 To know wisdom and instruction; to perceive the words of understanding;

3 To receive the instruction of wisdom, justice, and judgment, and equity;

4 To give subtilty to the simple, to the young man knowledge and discretion.

5 A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels:

6 To understand a proverb, and the interpretation; the words of the wise, and their dark sayings.

7 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction. (KJV)

Our Father,

We would like to gain greater wisdom and understanding, particularly of your Word that we might always do what is right, just, and fair.

In the process we want to get closer to you and your son Jesus. We understand that you are the author and creator of everything we can know and experience –everything that is good and beneficial in this life and the life to come.

We would like to go beyond just head knowledge; since your heart and love is the foundation of your Word by which everything was created. We understand that respect and fear and love for you and your Son is the beginnings of the wisdom and knowledge, love and joy, which we seek in this life and the one to come.

By your Holy Spirit, we ask that you would guide us daily toward greater wisdom, love, and a closer relationship with you.

In Jesus Name, Amen
