Jonah 4:1-5

4 But it displeased Jonah exceedingly, and he was very angry.

2 And he prayed unto the Lord, and said, I pray thee, O Lord, was not this my saying, when I was yet in my country? Therefore I fled before unto Tarshish: for I knew that thou art a gracious God, and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repentest thee of the evil.

3 Therefore now, O Lord, take, I beseech thee, my life from me; for it is better for me to die than to live.

4 Then said the Lord, Doest thou well to be angry?

5 So Jonah went out of the city, and sat on the east side of the city, and there made him a booth, and sat under it in the shadow, till he might see what would become of the city.  (KJV)

Our Father,

The prophet Jonah was unhappy with You since You rendered mercy instead of judgment on Nineveh which he considered to be an enemy. He said:

“I knew that thou art a gracious God, and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and relenting from disaster.”

We are thankful that You are merciful and slow to anger. This example of withholding judgment when the Ninevites repented gives us real hope for our own nation and also for us personally.

We seek a sovereign move of Your Spirit in the American church which seems to be asleep while the culture is rejecting Your Word and following after false philosophies and false ‘spiritual’ religions instead of following Your Spirit. Let the churches rise up from the ashes and influence our country and people once more.

We seek a sovereign move of Your Spirit across this nation that will bring this people back to You and Your Word and teaching; that we might be blessed as we have been in the past rather than receive the judgment we seem to be headed toward.

We are thankful for your love and mercy, and ask that it be applied to America once more to a generation that grew up without knowing You and Your Word.

In the name of Your Son Jesus, Amen.
