Jonah 3
3 And the word of the Lord came unto Jonah the second time, saying,
2 Arise, go unto Nineveh, that great city, and preach unto it the preaching that I bid thee.
3 So Jonah arose, and went unto Nineveh, according to the word of the Lord. Now Nineveh was an exceeding great city of three days’ journey.
4 And Jonah began to enter into the city a day’s journey, and he cried, and said, Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown.
5 So the people of Nineveh believed God, and proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them even to the least of them.
6 For word came unto the king of Nineveh, and he arose from his throne, and he laid his robe from him, and covered him with sackcloth, and sat in ashes.
7 And he caused it to be proclaimed and published through Nineveh by the decree of the king and his nobles, saying, Let neither man nor beast, herd nor flock, taste any thing: let them not feed, nor drink water:
8 But let man and beast be covered with sackcloth, and cry mightily unto God: yea, let them turn every one from his evil way, and from the violence that is in their hands.
9 Who can tell if God will turn and repent, and turn away from his fierce anger, that we perish not?
10 And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil, that he had said that he would do unto them; and he did it not. (KJV)
Our Father,
When the prophet Jonah proclaimed Your judgment upon the evil city of Nineveh, the greatest to the least in that city repented and You relented. Nineveh was the capitol of the Assyrian empire which was notorious for destroying the cities of their neighbors in the process of building their empire; for indiscriminately killing- men, women, and children in the process and enslaving the survivors. Yet You forgave them when they repented.
In 2 Chronicles 7:14 You also promised to forgive Israel if they repented and turned back to You:
“If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”
We cry out for our own nation America. We pray for our own leaders that they may seek You once more and may this nation turn away from its current ways which have ended up killing millions of babies in the womb in the name of women’s rights. May the political leaders also turn from pushing LGBT rights over Your Word and religious freedom.
We pray for a new spiritual awakening; we ask that your Spirit would hover over this nation once more. We pray that this people will become a ‘nation under God’ in reality and seek Your face once more; that it would be more than just a motto. May this nation really trust in You rather than our military and in our money that includes the caption: “In God we trust.”
We seek forgiveness and blessings, peace and unity in our cities, states, and nation rather than the judgment we may deserve.
We also ask that Your Holy Spirit would wake up the American Church from its slumber; let it fulfill its calling and destiny while there is yet day. Let the pastors and leaders live in the midst of Your signs and wonders, healings and miracles while they boldly preach Your Word once more from sea to shining sea.
In Jesus name, Amen.
